IBA

If we take a stroll down the memory lane we would be surprised to learn what history has taught us. Taking a look at the rear view, we would see that a lot of revolutionary ideas have budded in the minds of young people with a willingness to make a positive change in the world.
These people didn’t own anything but a single big idea that they thought could do something to drive innovation, something that could push us to discover new ways of doing things and most importantly something that could change peoples’ lives. Such great thinkers and doers are called entrepreneurs and this seed of entrepreneurship was watered by the grand event organized by the entrepreneurship society at IBA, under the flag name of IBA INVENT, to let the brilliant young minds come together on a single forum and unleash their creativity to show the skeptics new ways of doing the impossible.
The Grand Finale of IBA INVENT was held on Sunday, 3rd July 2011, at the IBA main campus, chaired by renowned names in the corporate sector and business community which included the prominent names of MR Ali Jameel (TPL Holdings), Prof. Dr. Sarfaraz Mian (State University of New York), Tahir Jawaid (Engro Corp), Shahid Tawawala (Meskay & Femtee), Tariq Hashmi (Arif Habib Investments), Zia Naqi (ICPL), Karim Hatim (Pak Brunei), Saima Irtiza (Acumen Fund), Omair Allawala (Gum Corporation), Aizaz Sarfraz (PAIIR Investment), Mr. Shahab Zuberi (Business Recorder group), Mr. Ali Jameel (TPL Holdings).
The competition provided a unique opportunity for the students to showcase their talent in a stimulated environment that gave them a flavor of practical intricacies of the corporate world. Various business people thoroughly appreciated the initiative taken by IBA entrepreneurship society to take the business idea competition to the next level by inviting teams from a variety of different backgrounds and fields of study and interest to come together and exhibit their invaluable potential. Speaking to our representative Mr. Omair Allawala (CEO, Gum corp.) cherished the event and acknowledged that such events should take place regularly to allow the students to expose their aptitude for the benefit of the society and economy at large. He also commented that such events serve as a bridge between the students and the business community. Ms Jehan Ara (President, PASHA) testified that such
events provide a good learning opportunity for the students hence should be held regularly.

She also appreciated the efforts made by the big names in the business community to have taken time out of their busy schedules and contribute towards the preparation of leaders of these students for a better tomorrow. Mr Aizaz Sarfaraz (CEO and MD, PAIR) applauded the efforts of the brilliant young participants to have come up with such out of the box ideas.

He also mentioned in his testimony that it is the responsibility of those in the industry to mentor these students to help them tweak their ideas for implementation in real life corporate environment. Mr Ali Jameel (CEO, TPL Holdings), while talking to our representative, suggested that participants from previous such competitions should be invited so that they can share their experiences with these young entrepreneurs about how they were able to convert their ideas into realizable businesses. Dr Asher Hasan (Founder and CEO, NAYA JEEVAN) while valuing the efforts of organizers and the students said that focus should also be put on more challenging entrepreneurial ventures such as social enterprising, which is a segment currently being largely ignored by the corporate sector in Pakistan.
Mr. Sarfraz Rahman (CEO Engro Foods) mentioned in his testimony that he loves helping and mentoring students considering that these students would take up the role of leaders tomorrow hence he comes to IBA often to offer his services as a mentor.
