High school graduates can apply for flight attendant positions, according to Cathay Pacific Airways Monday.

The Hong Kong-based airline announced that it will recruit flight attendants from Taiwan at the beginning of August.

According to a company spokesman, applicants with a high school degree can try out to become a flight attendant. Cathay Pacific's education requirements are not as stringent as some airliners, including TransAsia Airways and Far Eastern Transport, which both require applicants to obtain at least college or university degrees.

The spokesman from Cathay Pacific's Taiwan Branch Office said enthusiasm is the most important character to be a flight attendant. Besides, other international carriers also require only a high school diploma.

Interviews will all be conducted in English, said the spokesman.

Other basic requirements for the position include Republic of China citizenship, fluency in Chinese and English, a minimum age of 18, and reaching a height of at least 208 centimeters.

Successful applicants will receive six weeks of professional training at Cathay Pacific's Hong Kong headquarters.

Currently about 400 of Cathay Pacific's flight attendants are ROC passport holders
