China opened Thursday a 26-mile cross-sea bridge, the world’s longest, in Qingdao City, Shandong Province.
The eight-lane Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Bridge connects the city with Huangdao district cutting travel time from 40 to 20 minutes. Car traffic in the bridge is expected to number 30,000.
The bridge cost $2.3 billion to built. Construction began in 2007.
Previously, the world’s longest bridge is the 22-mile Hangzhou Bay Cross-sea Bridge that connects the cities of Jiaxing and Ningbo in east China's Zhejiang Province.
Another Chinese land and sea bridge, the Danyang-Kunshan rail bridge in Shanghai, is reputed to be the longest at 102 miles.
