The new season of “HawthoRNe” begins with the Christina and Tom’s wedding which is constantly interrupted by the noise from the city engineers trimming trees. “HawthoRNe” season 3 premiere takes a sharp turn almost immediately when the vows are spoken. There is a crash which sends everyone heading to the street to discover Christina’s neighbor’s car has been hit by one of the trees the engineers are falling. As everyone scurries to help make sure all are fine, tragedy waits in the shadows for Christina Hawthorne (Jada Pinkett
Smith).
Christina calls it a night and heads home to wait for new husband, Dr. Tom Wakefield (Michael Vartan), when she is brutally attacked in the hospital parking lot by a masked and hooded stranger who smashes her head through the driver’s window and viciously kicks her before Tom finally reaches her. He carries he to the waiting staff and gurney to transport her into the ER when preparations are made to ensure her safety and the life of the baby. All seems fine until the babyheart rate
starts to drop as Christina goes into labor. This is the same time Candy finally arrives, too late for the wedding, but in time to deliver the baby as her water has broken on the way.
While Candy prepares to deliver her baby, Christina gives Tom permission to do whatever it takes to save the baby. They first attempt through sewing the cervix shut but when that fails, Tom authorizes Christina to be paralyzed to prevent the contractions. This fails as well when the baby’s heart rate bottoms out and dies in utero. Devastated, Tom has Christina backed out of the paralysis state and she is taken into delivery. As Candy is delivering her daughter, Christina is delivering a stillborn.
Christina goes to see Candy to congratulate her at which time the baby is brought to her. Christina puts up a good front, asking to hold the beautiful little girl but falls apart when she gets back to her own room. Detective Nick Renata (Marc Anthony) is investigating the assault which will now probably he declared a homicide. It is only the beginning of many stressful and tragic times ahead this season as Christina is yet to find out that she not only lost her baby but that Bobbi has been given her Chief of Nursing position!
