Pirates Of The Caribbean 4

Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is a hit already, regardless of the critical drubbing it's taking. Following the lead of other summer tentpoles Thor and Fast Five, the film opened abroad (on Wednesday) prior to its U.S. debut today. The result of that international take as of this morning? A cool $44 million.

Deadline has the report on the big box-office bucks, which surely will ease the suffering of your stifling, cubicle existence, as it has mine.

Last night's midnight screenings here in the U.S. brought in some $4.46 million, beating Disney's Johnny Deep-starring Alice in Wonderland from last year as well as Thor and Fast Five in that particular niche.
The film is expected by rival studios to have the biggest opening of 2011 so far, ahead of previous champ Fast Five, with a $90-$100 million take by Sunday (though Disney is hoping for over $100 million).

So it won't beat Pirates 3's opening weekend of $114 million, though that film had the benefit of the extended Memorial Day weekend back in 2007. And with The Hangover 2 and Kung Fu Panda 2 coming next weekend, Pirates 4 might not break the $300 million domestic mark that its predecessors have. But still, Disney is reportedly confident that the film will at least pass the $670 million that Pirates 3 made in total (including international numbers).

In other words, count on Pirates 5. Or fear it?
