Sara Ramirez Engaged

She plays a lesbian doctor who cemented her place as a gay icon by marrying her long time love.
Now Grey’s Anatomy actress Sara Ramirez is getting ready to walk down the aisle for real after getting engaged to long-term boyfriend Ryan Debolt.
It comes just a month after her character Callie Torres married fellow doctor Arizona Robbins in a ratings winning episode of the hit show.
Romantic Ryan surprised Sara, 35, by popping the question in Paris, the worldwide capital of love.
Her spokesman said: ‘Sara Ramirez and her long-time partner Ryan Debolt are thrilled to announce their engagement, which took place in Paris, France.’
Her fellow Grey’s Anatomy stars were also delighted with the news.
A show insider said: ‘Everyone was over the moon when they heard Sara had got engaged and we wish her well.’
Ramirez regularly refuses to talk about her private life, but recently revealed in an interview with Latina magazine that she had, ‘never quite found my best friend and my romantic relationship all rolled up in one.’
The Californian also said her character’s controversial lesbian storylines and her support for gay rights have led to her receiving hate mail.
The curvy actress also revealed she had previously struggled to accept her body type.
She said: ‘There's a whole list of things you could worry about. Are you skinny enough? Are you too fat? Are you talented enough?
‘In all kinds of ways, I used to be really, really hard on myself.’
But it was the death of her best friend in 2008 that made her accept herself more.
Sara said: ‘One of the things I'm clear about is how sexy I feel. I feel badass and sexy and empowered and clear.’
Her upcoming wedding is the icing on an already amazing year for the multi-talented Mexican-American.
As well as enjoying some meaty storylines in the award-winning medical drama, the former stage performer’s debut solo EP topped the iTunes chart.
Before moving onto the hit ABC show she enjoyed significant success as the original Lady of the Lake in the Monty Python Broadway hit Spamalot, winning a Tony award for best featured actress in a musical in 2005.
Executives at ABC were so amazed at her performance they offered to give her a role in any show she wanted.
She chose Grey’s Anatomy as she was already a dedicated fan.
