Panjab University

Metal detectors will be used to catch those students who cheat in the Panjab University examinations. The decision to install metal detectors has been made as there were a lot of cheating incidents recorded in the undergraduate examinations held in April. The metal detectors will not only be installed outside Panjab University's campus or colleges, but outside those institutions whose examinations are administered by Panjab University. Students were caught cheating through their mobile phones and other electronic gadgets. The metal detectors will be with the flying squads.
With this, the university has initiated the process of action against those who cheat and help students in cheating.
Traditional cheating methods are easily caught; however, mobile phones or other gadgets are not, as they are hidden in the turbans or some other places where the members of the flying squad, because of religious reasons, cannot check.
During the examinations held in April, many cheating cases in Guru Nanak College, Ferozepur, came to the fore. Moreover, the Ferozepur district administration also complained to Panjab University. Panjab University carried out surprise raids at Guru Nanak College, in which it was revealed the college administration was allegedly involved in mass cheating. After this, Panjab University disallowed the college to conduct examinations.
This year, cheating cases were more as compared to last year. It found evidence of cheating. Controller of Examinations (CoE) Prof AK Bhandari says that two high-power committees have been formed. Two bureaucrats with two retired judges are in the committees.
