Income Tax officials today carried out simultaneous raids on the residences and offices of Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. According to I-T sources, raids were being conducted on complaints that the stars had amassed wealth disproportionate
to their known sources of income.
Raids were conducted at houses owned by Mammootty at Kochi and Chennai and those of Mohanlal at Bangalore, Chennai Thiruvanthapuram and Kochi. Business concerns and offices connected with them are also being searched.
IT officials reportedly seized many documents including details of financial transactions. Mohan Lal’s wife residence in Chennai was also raided. There are reports that two big elephant tusks were seized from the Kochi residence of Mohan Lal.
They could not open two locked rooms in the same residence. IT officials also quizzed his business partner Antony Perumbavoor. Reacting to the raid Lal said he would fully co-operate with the officials. He was busy with his film shooting in Madurai (South Tamil Nadu) when the raid took place.
