Design engineering company, J C Smale are proud to announce they have achieved environmental accreditation to ISO14001, the international standard for environmental management systems.
During the 2009 drought, J C Smale investigated ways to reduce it’s reliance on mains water. Subsequently, the engineering company installed a large rainwater system to capture and store rain falling on the company’s extensive roofed workshops in Notting Hill.
Following this, the company established a team to identify other business activities that had the potential to impact the environment.
The J C Smale environmental team examined the company's business processes, including the management of waste metal, recycling of paper and other materials, as well as planning how the company will respond in the event of liquid spillage, such as machining oil.
The company’s Managing Director, Mr Ken Smale, also employed a consulting firm to assist with the process.
“As we aren’t experts in this area, we hired an outside firm to work with our team and assist in giving an independent perspective to our review," says Smale.
The successful review resulted in the creation of an environmental manual containing documented systems and procedures. It was this manual that led to J C Smale achieving accreditation to ISO14001, the international standard for environmental management systems.
“J C Smale aim to demonstrate how environmental decisions can contribute to a more sustainable future - for the community and business,” says Smale.
This accreditation is in addition to the ISO9001 quality management accreditation which J C Smale achieved in 2004.
