Emma Watson has been working with Rupert Grint on the "Harry Potter" films since the two were children when the first film came out in 2001. Now Watson, 21, said that kissing her co-star of 10 years was a bit awkward for her.
In the final installment of the "Harry Potter" franchise, Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger return to Hogwarts to find and destroy Voldemort's final horcruxes, which contain fragments of his soul. By doing so, they hope to render him mortal, so that they can finally kill him. But when Voldemort finds out about their mission, the biggest battle ever begins.
Meanwhile, Weasley, played by Grint, and Watson's character, Granger, have some business of their own to take care of. Potential spoiler alert!
"It was most definitely awkward," Watson said of the highly-anticipated kiss scene, in an interview provided by Warner Bros. Pictures. "Rupert, he's been like a brother to me, we've grown up together, we have so much history."
Watson also described the moment as "awkward" in an interview at the premiere of the film on July 8.
The actress said the buildup of the moment from the crew on set, the media and also the fans. Watson said that she and Grint wondered "Oh, how are we going to live up to this and pull this off?"
As for how the kiss fit into the context of the film, the actress said, "From the minute you sit down until the very end you barely have time to catch your breath, but the kiss with Ron and Hermione is just this wonderful break in all the chaos and all the fear and sadness, you know all of that going on."
"They just have a moment where that's all that really matters, is the two of them," she added. "You know they could die at any moment and I think they both just feel like in that moment if they don't tell each other how they feel about one another then, you know, they have to."
Watson describes Grint as "shy, he can be shy," and adds, "He doesn't say much. I think there was that added thing for me where you didn't know what he was thinking. With Dan [Radcliffe] you always know what he's thinking, but with Rupert, not so much. "
