Dalai Lama Masterchef

The Dalai Lama’s a fairly popular man in Australia. Thousands travel to see him whenever he speaks. But apart from being snubbed by the prime minister during his Australian visit, his guest appearance on "Masterchef" has caused a stir.
First, the Herald-Sun promoted the show by digitally-altering a photograph to show the "Masterchef" judges, including celebrity chef Matt Preston, pouring spaghetti over the Dalai Lama’s head. Then a contestant on the show refused to address him by his title, "Your Holiness."
Some believe the sloppy image was in bad taste. New Zealander Ngawang Lahtso told "Adelaide Now," “It’s probably those who revere him so much (who) probably find it harder than he might.”
The Dalai Lama didn’t comment. As he once said, “Sometimes one creates a dynamic impression by saying something, and sometimes one creates as significant an impression by remaining silent.”
The Dalai Lama is hard to offend. He’s repeatedly snubbed by Australian prime ministers on his visits. Indeed, it was left to former Midnight Oil lead singer and Minister for Education, Peter Garrett, to represent the government and recently meet the Tibetan spiritual leader.
The Dalai Lama didn't even know whether Julia Gillard was a man or a woman. How would he if he's never met her? But he was met by two other men: Greens leader Bob Brown and Liberal Leader Tony Abbot.
Maybe the Dalai Lama’s wishing he had gone nowhere near "Masterchef" as the latest insult probably takes the cake.
He didn’t plan on running into a homegrown, country bumpkin. But he did: while five other contestants were inspired by the Dalai Lama’s visit, Kate Bracks, a 36-year-old mum from the western New South Wales fruit-growing district of Orange, wasn’t too impressed.
She refused to call him “Your Holiness” and instead abbreviated his name to Dalai. Just a regular bloke with a funny name?
“My belief is that God is the only one that is perfectly holy,” Bracks told news.com.au. “So in terms of everybody calling him 'Your Holiness' … I was uncomfortable with (it).”
It was left to Uniting Church Minister Bill Crews and Baptist Minister Tim Costello to call him “Your Holiness” over lunch.
Kate Bracks has now had her 15 minutes of fame. She will return to rural Orange. If a Buddhist or a Muslim disrespects her Christian leaders, she might just get it.
The Herald-Sun is saying the image was in good humor and the Dalai Lama is tolerant. Lucky that he is.
