Bette Midler

Helen Mirren is set to replace Bette Midler in the role of Linda Kenney Baden, the attorney who defended music producer Phil Spector on charges of murder. Midler had to pull out of the part after suffering from a herniated disc, stating she was “heartbroken” to have to do so.

The TV film, made for HBO, was six days into filming when Midler was forced out but, as reported by Deadline, filming can now re-commence next week with Helen Mirrenstanding in.

Mirren has previously won four Emmy awards for her television work, including her iconic lead in Prime Suspect and, for HBO, as Elizabeth I.
Al Pacino, who you can see in full costume here, is producing the TV film, as well as starring as the infamous producer found guilty of the murder of Lana Clarkson.

The biopic will mark Pacino's third collaboration with HBO, after the award winning mini-series Angels in America, and the TV movie You Don't Know Jack. Pacinoreceived Golden Globe and Emmy awards for roles in both.

Mirren will next be seen in The Debt released in the UK on September 30.
