Google has quietly launched a new website that aggregates some of its top tools in a single, searchable page called "What do you love?" While it's not quite a finalized, it's live and open for your lovin'.
The first sign that "What do you love" is a work in progress appears when you try and find it. Type in "wdyl.com" and you'll get a Google-branded 404 error page; to find the site you'll have to add a "www." What you get is breathtakingly simple: There's a header, "What do you love? from Google," a search field, and a heart (search) button.
Results run the Google gamut. Using several Google tools, a WDYL serach returns a page with a dizzying number of modules, including results from Blogger, Picasa, Books, Chrome, Translate, Earth, Trends, Gmail, News, and YouTube. Sometimes the results are spot-on, occasionally dead-wrong, and other times missing altogether.
Searching for "PCMag" retrieved our office on a Google Map, some mostly relevant Google News stories (with the exception of one story fromKansas City Star that references ourFastest Mobile Networks feature), our various logos from Image Search, and even a PCMag YouTube video. At the same time, though, the Patent Search box retrieved a fairly bizarre result (patent #6901380, "Merchandising system method"), and other Google tools such as Alerts, SketchUp, and Produce Search came up empty-handed.
Thus far, "What do you love?" seems to do best with general searches such as "technology" or "science," which makes sense considering it's designed to be a gateway to a host of Google-centric services. For Google loyalists looking for a centralized, effortless way to explore their favorite g-tech, WDYL warrants a click.
