Strong to severe thunderstorms are aligned along a cold front currently sitting over the area. The first round of severe storms overnight brought damaging wind reports, large hail, and heavy rain across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Strong to severe thunderstorms will continue to develop and train over the same areas this morning.
A second round of severe weather is now entering Chicago’s far western suburbs.
Severe thunderstorm warnings are currently in effect for DeKalb County. Flash flood warnings are in effect as a result of storms moving through the same areas.
The frontal boundary will sit over the city today. To the north, temperatures will be in the mid 70s. To the south, temperatures will reach the mid to upper 80s.
Today, a slight risk for severe weather will remain across the city’s southern suburbs and northwest Indiana. On Friday, the risk will include much of the Chicagoland area as a low pressure system forces the frontal boundary further north.
