Sean Tobin sat down at length on Tuesday with the parents of sextuplets born in Abington, Pa., and the proud parents spoke about the media spotlight and how the kids are doing.
Sean's full interview will air at 5 p.m. today on Fox 29 News, but we have some raw video from the interview with Brendan and Stacey Carey of Feasterville, Pa., as a special preview.
The Careys said the children are in the nursery at Abington Hospital and will be there for a while, since they were born prematurely. But they see them regularly and Stacey has held the children.
Emma, Samantha, Olivia, John, Patrick, and Connor Carey were born almost 10 weeks prematurely last Wednesday. The couple has a 16-month-old daughter.
Both grandmothers are involved in helping with the kids, they said, and the Careys seemed very well-organized and ready to deal with six extra mouths to feed.
"We have a ton of help," said Brendan Carey.
But the media spotlight has caught them off guard, even though they knew that sextuplets born in Pennsylvania can get a lot of attention.
"The past week has been difficult, just a lot of the media and things like that are out of control," said Brendan Carey. "But everyone has been respectful and nice. We kind of expected it, but we really didn't expect it to this magnitude."
Brendan wouldn't comment on Jon and Kate Gosselin, the Reading, Pa., parents who had sextuplets and became celebrities.
"I don't know Jon or Kate Gosselin… I would never comment on someone else," Brendan Carey said. He also chuckled at the notion of a reality show about his family, but laughed about getting free diapers.
Stacey Carey said she was also surprised by the publicity.
"We thought maybe if we did a few things then we could regain our privacy," she said.
Things didn't quiet down since then, but Stacey Carey made sure her priorities are known.
"We aren't looking for fame and fortune. We have only agreed to do a few things and then we're going to focus on the babies, our daughter and our family."
