Seattle Weather


June 19th is a big game for the Los Angeles Sparks. They will be facing the 2010 WNBA champions, theSeattle Storm. Although Seattle holds the last title, the Sparks are looking mighty strong in the 2011 season.
In the preseason opener on May 25th, the Sparks set up a winning precedent against the Storm. During this preseason matchup, Los Angeles beat Seattle 71-66. Los Angeles came out strong with a 41-25 lead at half time. Although the Storm fought back and was ahead at one point, Los Angeles proved to be the stronger team.
So far in the 2011 regular season, the Sparks are 2-1. They started off the year with one win and one loss to the Minnesota Lynx. With just two games under their belt, the Storm has had a win against the Phoenix Mercury and a loss against the Minnesota Lynx. The 74-81 loss against the Lynx broke the team's 18 gamehome winning streak.
During the June 10th game against the Phoenix Mercury, the Los Angeles Sparks came up with a 98-84 victory. The team came together to pull off a huge victory. Candace Parker had 22 points and Tina Thompsonwas right behind her with 21 points. Delisha Milton-Jones and Kristi Toliver had double-digit points also. GuardNoelle Quinn has been a solid and currently ranks No. 1 in the WNBA in assists per turnover.
Against Los Angeles, guard Sue Bird will lead Seattle. During the game against the Lynx, Bird had 24 points. Overall, Bird ranks 3rd in WNBA assists per game. Additionally, she's 2nd in three-point field goal attempts and 8th in points per game. Other standout players for the Seattle Storm include Swin Cash, Camille Little andKatie Smith. With 18 points, Little led her team to victory against the Phoenix. The addition of veteran Katie Smith rounds out the team.
Los Angeles will face the Seattle Storm Sunday, June 19th at the Staples Center at 5:30 PT. City National Bank will present the game. In support of their program: reading is the way up, attendees are asked to bring a new book to donate.
