Ryan Sheckler


Skate pro Ryan Sheckler announced on Wednesday that his recent Skate For A Cause event raised $105,000 for charity.
"We come out (to events) and we want to help all these kids," Ryan Sheckler said. "Everything I have in my life is a blessing and I want to give back. It just makes sense. It's a lot of fun and I just can't wait to keep doing it."
Sheckler. 21, of San Clemente, hosted his second annual pro skater competition with Etnies on May 14 and invited 29 of his closest skate buddies to compete. The nation's best skaters not only wowed thousands with big air and amazing tricks at Etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest but the four riders with the best tricks also donated $15,000 of prize money to the Autism Speaks and another charity.
The contests included three jam sessions. The rider with the best tricks on each of the park's obstacles won the event. The event is the Sheckler Foundation's second annual Skate for a Cause. The proceeds went to Autism Speaks and back to the foundation to fund other charites. Last year's event raised $77,000 and benefitted the Make A Wish Foundation.
Steve Caballero, of San Jose, won $3,000 in the Ball Park SkaterCross. Chris Cole, of Philadephia, earned $4,000 for best trick on tranny and Pat Duffy, of Encinitas, collected $4,000 for best trick on the Red Bull tech center. Ryan Decenzo, of Huntington Beach, won $4,000 for the best trick on the stairs, rails and hubba section.
"The skate industry really rallied to support Autism Speaks, with so many top pros and brands participating in the second Skate for a Cause at Etnies Skatepark," said Don Brown, senior vice president of marketing for Etnies. "Etnies is proud to be a part of an event that was such a success and raised both money and awareness for Autism Speaks."
Riders came from all over to participate. They included Billy Marks, Brandon Biebel, Chad Bartie, Chris Cole, Colin McKay, Corbin Harris, Danny Way, Dave Hackett, Fabrizio Santos of Santa Ana, Greg Lutzka of Mission Viejo, Jake Brown, James Craig, Jason Ellis, Joey Brezinski, Jordan Hoffart, Jose Rojo, Kurtis Colamonico, Kevin Roma, Kyle Leeper, Lance Mountain, Neal Mims, Pat Duffy, PJ Ladd, Rob Dyrdek, Ronnie Creager of Yorba Linda, Ryan Decenzo of Huntington Beach, Ryan Sheckler of San Clemente, Sasha Steinhorst, Sean Malto, Sean Sheffey, Shane O'Neill, Shane Sheckler of San Clemente, Steve Caballero, Tony Tave, Torey Pudwill and Tyler Hendley of Mission Viejo.
"We are grateful to Etnies and the Sheckler Foundation for raising awareness and funds for Autism Speaks in such a fun way," Mark Roithmayr, president of Autism Speaks, said. "The Skate for a Cause event was a huge success thanks to the dedication of both organizations and the pro-skaters who put on an amazing show for all of the fans in attendance."
