Two years after they drafted him with the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio is finally ready to join the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Rubio was one of three points guards selected by Timberwolves general manager David Kahn in the first round of the 2009 draft, and the 20-year-old is easily the most talented of the bunch.
Now that Rubio is finally in the mix, the Timberwolves, who finished with a league-low 17 wins this season, have the makings of a talented young team. And the fact that they have the second overall pick in this year's draft assures that things can only get better.
Meanwhile, it looked like things were about to get a lot better for Maria Sharapova. After years of struggling on clay, she won the Rome Masters and then made it to the semifinals at the French Open.
Unfortunately, that's where Sharapova ran into Australian Open runner-up Li Na, who defeated her 6-4, 7-5. Li will now be playing in her second straight Grand Slam final, and Sharapova will have to wait until next year's French Open to complete a career Grand Slam.
In the poker world, World Series of Poker mainstay Phil Ivey has decided not to partake in the WSOP for the time being. He is boycotting it as a result of the federal crackdown on online poker, as he claims that Full Tilt Poker still has yet to pay back funds to many of its users.
