New Mexico Fires

Regional officials have decided to close the wooded area along the Rio Grande in central New Mexico due to extreme fire danger.
The Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District announced Tuesday morning that the section of bosque from Pena Blanca south to the Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is being closed to all users.
The closure includes the Rio Grande Valley State Park in Albuquerque.
The conservancy district's chief engineer, Subhas Shah, says the closure order is an effort to protect the area. He says there have already been several devastating fires in the bosque and the district can't risk any more destruction.
Fire and law enforcement officials from Bernalillo, Sandoval, Valencia and Socorro counties will enforce the closure.
Violating the closure could result in an arrest and a fine.
