Blue Gill Quality Foods
A new fresh-foods restaurant opened June 16 on the bottom floor of the new Shands parking garage at 1310 SW 13th St.
Blue Gill uses unprocessed foods, opting to buy items from local farms, fishermen and the University of Florida meat processing facility. It has an open bar and fosters a casual atmosphere with Southern-style seafood cooking, said co-owner Bert Gill, who also owns Mildred's and New Deal and recently closed Ti Amo.
“The ambience is awesome,” he said.
Food choices include sandwiches at about $6, boiled peanuts, hamburgers with aged ground beef and grouper, with the most expensive item on the menu costing $22.
Customers can park upstairs in any of the six floors of the parking garage, which is metered during the day but free on weekends and after 4:30 p.m.
Piesano's Stone Fired Pizza
A second Piesano's Stone Fired Pizza opened June 6 in the Tower Square Plaza
in the former Movie Gallery location at 5757 SW 75th St.
The restaurant offers traditional Italian dishes with a family-friendly atmosphere, said Joel Mills, co-owner. Menu items include eggplant Parmesan, baked ziti and more than 25
specialty pizzas fired on granite stone.
“It's nice enough if you want to bring a date,” Mills said.
Express takeout is also available. Prices range from about $7 for lunch specials to about $13 for dinner selections. The restaurant's most expensive item is its 24-inch gourmet extreme pizza at $35.
Piesano's first restaurant is in the Hunter's Crossing shopping center at 5200 NW 43rd St.
