Thor Review |
Thor the god of thunder (Hemsworth) is about to accept the throne of Asgard from his older father Odin (Hopkins). But when Frost Giants find a way to sneak into Asgard unnoticed this begs Thor to question weather or not his father is making the right decision and to retaliation for trying to steal from Asgard. Odin refuses and this leaving Thor and his fellow warriors including his brother Loki (the god of mischief) to go to Frost-Bite and to com-front the frost giants one by one. This ending in the frost giants wanting war. Odin furious banishes Thor and cast him out to planet earth. There he gets "hit" by researcher Jan Foster (Portman) and her team Selvig (Skarsgard) and Darcy Lewis (Dennings). With Thor out of the picture this leaves Loki to take power and rule Asgard , but knowing he has a dark and deep past , he will stop at nothing till he can destroy Jotunheim with the Bifröst Bridge, and thus prove himself worthy to Odin. But not without Thor standing in his way and trying to protect whats right , and thus prove he is worthy enough again to hold the Hammer! and reclaim his power , but only until he proves himself.
One thing that stands out from Thor than any other marvel films , is all the references and cameos by upcoming heroes or previous ones. "Is that one of starks?" .. "I don't know that guy never tells me anything". Plus we got to see a glimpse of Jeremy Renner's "Hawkeye" which was great!. Story was okay , but to mythical for me , i mean sure the concept is cool and all but it really failed to pack a punch and grab and pull me in like the first Iron Man did or ever way back to the first Spider-Man. Those felt right and good , so i'm hoping they better develop his personality and we get a better background in either the sequel to Thor? or TheAvengers. It clearly stated in the films credits "Thor Will Return In TheAvengers" which gave me a sigh of relief cause if they think left an impression on me after this movie. There wrong. Acting was like i said nothing great the comedic timing of the film was well executed enough which left my entire theater in huge burst of laughter. Natalie Portman as always gorgeous and delivers a modest and decent performance. Directing i really have nothing to say. Visuals were great , i saw the film in 2D which was probably better because Thor was converted and it prolly would have not been as good as it was. So see it in 2D and save the $$.
Overall: Not the best Marvel Adaption i have seen. It moves a little fast pace at times and gets a little too silly for my taste. But Thor is a juggernaut of an action film it's worth your time .. and gets the summer movie season going .. you will have fun. Yeah you may not fall in love with Thor at first glance , i sure did not after about the first 30mins the movie went buy in a blink of an eye. But the steady pace i'm sure is good. Its funny also , but leaves you wanting so much more , which in some movies can be good or bad. (Spoiler) they do leave Thor open for a sequel which should be no surprise , but i would think they would treat the Avengers as the sequel to Thor , we have already been told Natalie Portman will be in the Avengers. But for now Thor is good , but just not fantastic and did not leave me as shocked as i wanted to be. I wanted more and did not get it. For now as far as superhero films go this is going to have to do. But waiting for DVD is never such a bad thing considering how bad gas prices are. Don't see if you do not want to. But when your sitting the theater and your laughing and enjoying the action sequences thats as good as it gets.
