May is here and it's time to show our continued support for our courageous troops overseas. Moe’s Southwest Grill will be discounting their burritos for their annual Cinco de Moe’s event on May 5th in hopes to encourage donations to USO. The average cost of a burrito is in the $5-$7 range but on Cinco de Moe’s the cost will be lowered to $3.00 to encourage customers to donate the difference.
In appreciation of the brave men and women that serve in the United States Military, Moe’s Southwest Grill will be teaming up with The Greater Jacksonville Area’s USO for the 2nd Annual Help on the Home Front Care Package Drive. Last year, Moe’s Southwest Grill raised over $17,000. The goal of the program is to provide a USO Goodie Box for every troop member deployed from the northeast Florida, Volusia, and Brevard area. The USO (United Service Organizations) has been the bridge between the American public and the U.S. military. In times of peace and war, the USO has consistently delivered its special brand of comfort, morale and recreational services to the military. Greater Jacksonville Area USO is an independent Charter Center from HQ USO and does not receive any federal, state, USO HQ operational funding and relies on the generosity of the Jacksonville area community to remain open.
“The USO Goodie Box provides our troops a way to remind them of home and all the little things we take for granted in our daily life. We fill these boxes full of requested items from military units deployed overseas as well as other items like phone cards, protein bars, various snacks, hand sanitizer, books and other items that remind of their loved ones here in the Jacksonville area,” said John Shockley, Executive Director, Greater Jacksonville USO.
The Greater Jacksonville USO is the only Region that provides this service to our local troops. If you want to get involved and provide any type of donation for this great cause, Moe’s Southwest Grill and the Greater Jacksonville Area USO offers three easy ways to collect donations for these “Goodie Boxes”.
1) If you go to www.jaxuso.org/support_donations.html and donate $12.50, the proceeds will go toward sending a Goodie Box to troops in need.
2) On May 5th only, in each area Moe’s Southwest Grill location the USO Goodie Box will be on display on Cinco de Moe’s for you to donate for the entire cost of the box that will be shipped to the troops. By doing this you will have the options to write a personal message to the troops as well as leave your contact info for the troops to contact you and thank you for the donation.
3) If you cannot afford to donate the full $12.50 for the shipping of the USO Goodie Box, Moe’s Southwest Grill will be offering the option to donate the difference of your purchase to the Greater Jacksonville Area USO on top of your purchase on May 5th upon check-out of your meal. If you choose to, you will have the opportunity to fill out your name on a paper printed flag with the “Help on the Homefront” USO logo on it. You will then post up your Flag anywhere in the restaurant to be displayed for the entire month of May.
Moe’s Southwest Grill is a fast-casual restaurant featuring fresh southwest fare in a fun and engaging atmosphere with 16 locations in the greater Jacksonville area, and over 400 locations nationwide.
