With May 21, 2011 just around the corner, people are starting to get curious about the many doomsday prophecies that have been popularized over the years. May 21 is, of course, the date that one bizarrely well-funded Christian group believes is Judgment Day, when the souls of true believers will be raptured into heaven.

Thanks to the horrible film 2012, however, many believe that the Mayan calendar predicted the end of civilization as we know it on December 21, 2012. However, there doesn't seem to be any mention of the end of the world on that date in classic Maya accounts, nor do modern Mayans regard the date with special significance.
