MINISTER Lim Hwee Hua has denied that questioning Hougang Town Council's handling of accounts was a personal attack on Workers' Party (WP) chief Low Thia Khiang, saying that Aljunied GRC residents deserve to know how the WP may run their town council if it wins.
Mrs Lim said on Monday that HUDC residents living in Hougang Avenue 7 had failed to get details from the Hougang Town Council of the estate's accounts and sinking fund, and this 'troubling' lack of information was making it difficult for them to plan for the estate's privatisation.
Her remarks provoked a strong rebuttal from Mr Low at a WP rally on Tuesday. He slammed the accusation as irresponsible and a personal attack against him.
Mrs Lim, who is in the five-member People's Action Party team for Aljunied GRC, led by Foreign Minister George Yeo, told reporters on Wednesday that it was 'regrettable' that Mr Low had taken this personally.
'I'm interested because WP is contesting in Aljunied. They'll run the town council if they're elected. I think the people of Aljunied deserve to know what sort of town management quality they can expect,' she said.
