A San Diego police officer has pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping and raping a woman while on duty.
Daniel Dana was charged Friday and entered not guilty pleas to oral copulation under color of authority, rape under color of authority, assault and battery by an officer and false imprisonment.
A judge set bail at $300,000.
Prosecutors say Dana threatened to arrest a 34-year-old woman he had befriended unless she had sex with him. He faces a maximum sentence of more than 17 years in state prison if convicted.
The arrest Wednesday of Dana came one day after the police chief apologized for a spate of officer-misconduct allegations and announced new measures to regain the public's confidence.
