Columbus Dispatch
Some details are beginning to emerge about Jim Tressel's decision to step down as Ohio State's coach.

Sources tell The Columbus Dispatch that Tressel was encouraged to resign. Tressel reportedly flew back Sunday night to Columbus from Florida, where he was vacationing, and met with school officials.

The Dispatch obtained a memo Ohio State president E. Gordon Gee sent to the school's Board of Trustees earlier Monday:
"I write to let you know that later this morning we will be announcing the resignation of Jim Tressel as head coach of the University's football program. As you all know, I appointed a special committee to analyze and provide advice to me regarding issues attendant to our football program. In consultation with the senior leadership of the University and the senior leadership of the Board, I have been actively reviewing the matter and have accepted coach Tressel's resignation."
he special committee is significant, indicating Ohio State is concerned about more trouble coming for the program.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Doug Lesmerises tweets that Tressel announced his resignation to the team in a very brief meeting around 8:45 a.m. Monday. Tressel reportedly fought back tears and spoke for only a few seconds, before interim coach Luke Fickell addressed the team.
