Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited , Kozhikode, was targetting to provide 1.20 lakh mobile connections during the current financial year 2011-12, a top official of BSNL said today.

Speaking to mediapersons here, G Muraleedharan, General Manager, BSNL, Kozhikode, said it was planning to provide 15,000 land line connections, 50000 Broad Band connections and 1200 WiMAX connections.

Village Broad band Kiosks were opened at 17 stations in Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, from where high speed broad band could be browsed at Rs 5 per hour, he said.

During the last financial year 2010-11, 2 lakh mobile connections, 15788 Landline connections, 14522 Broad Band connections were provided, he said.

Under the NMEICT (National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology) Project, Broad band connectivity was provided to 53 colleges and NIT, Kozhikode.

A new plan 'Mithram' was introduced in pre-paid mobile sector from March 23, 2011 in which the customers could make calls to any five telephone numbers of any network at reduced rate, he said.

The speed of all broad band plans have been enhanced and usage charges reduced upto 10 paise per MB from Feb 1, 2011.

A new broadband plan named BB combo UL-850 was introduced from February 1, 2011 allowing 350 free calls per month and unlimited internet usage with a speed of 1Mbps to 8GB,he said.
