Long-serving Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud has won the Balingian state seat at the 10th Sarawak state election, a pro-Barisan Nasional blog site announced.

Taid had come under massive attacks from the opposition and civil rights movement in the run-up to the polls. He has also been asked to vacate the post which he had held on for the last 30 years.
In this election, Taib contested against Suriati Abdullah of the PKR and Salleh Jafaruddin, an independent candidate.
At the 2006 state election, he aib beat PKR’s Ibrahim Bayau with a comfortable 5,726-vote majority.
Taib in the run-up to the polls has said that he would vacate the chief minister’s post in “two to three years’ time”.
