The Cabinet will decide in the future whether to extend Malaysia's hosting of a Formula One race when the contract ends in 2015.
"We will see. The Cabinet will decide," Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razaktold reporters after witnessing the 2011 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix Sunday.
Negotiations are carried out between Formula One Management, race organiser Sepang International Circuit and Khazanah Nasional Bhd for the right to host a round of the F1 world championship.
On Sunday's race, Najib said that there was a good reception from the crowd with more people attending this year.
A total of 105,018 people attended the three-day weekend with 65,008 spectators on Sunday.
"I believe this championship can increase Malaysia's profile internationally," Najib added.
He also congratulated the teams which won, including the Lotus Renault GP Team that grabbed third place through Nick Heidfeld. Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull was the winner, followed by McLaren's Jensen Button.
On whether more Malaysian companies should participate in Formula One, he quipped: "Got three enough-la. What more you want? That's the maximum."
There are three Malaysian companies involved in Formula One teams, which are Mercedes GP Petronas, Lotus Renault GP and Team Lotus.
Another company, Q-Net, is a key partner with the Virgin Formula 1 Racing team.
