IIJT’S mega job fair
IIJT is organising a two-day Job Fair cum Assessment Camp on April 8-9, 2011. The objective of the launch is to address the issue of unemployment and un-employability in the country. Growth in auto & it sector
The first quarter of the 2011 witnessed a healthy hiring sentiment as the Naukri job speak index for March -2011 at 1,085 as compared to 1,050 in February-2011 is 8.5 per cent above the July-2008 levels. The index for IT sector at 1,198 in March-2011 is 91 per cent higher than the May-2009 levels where the index dipped to an all-time low of 626.
Similarly, the Auto sector also clocked impressive growth figures in March-2011 with the index at 1124 being 119 per cent above the January-2009 figures where the index dipped to 512.
This also dovetails with the optimism in the Naukri Hiring Outlook Survey where 82 per cent of recruiters from the IT sector and 85 per cent recruiters from the Auto sector had anticipated that new jobs will be created in the first half of 2011.

Part-time MBA on offer
Admissions are now open to the FORE School of Management’s Part-time three-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGDM). Students seeking admission are required to be working professionals for a period of at least two years. It is developed with a clear focus on developing managerial skills. Southampton’s short courses
The Institute of Maritime Law at the University of Southampton, one of UK’s top 10 research and teaching institutions, is offering two short-term courses to be conducted at Singapore and London respectively and has invited applications for the same.
The course at Singapore aims to familiarise students on various aspects of maritime law and the way they interlink with each other and operate in a wider commercial context. It spans two weeks from May 16-27, 2011. Some of the topics that will be covered include Charterparties, Shipping Documents in International Trade, Cargo Claims, Marine Insurance and Salvage, Towage and Wreck. The course lectures will take place at the Hilton Hotel, Singapore. The fee for the course is US$7,500. The last date for application is May 9, 2011, subject to availability.
The course in London is a one-week programme to be conducted from June 6-10, 2011. The course recognises the complexity of export trade documents by looking at how disputes can arise when the four contracts involved – sale, carriage, insurance and letter of credit — do not match. The fee for the course is £2,995.

FMS opens admission for MBA
Faculty of Management Studies(FMS), MRIU, invites applications for MBA. The eligibility criteria is 50 per cent marks in aggregate in any discipline in Graduation / Post Graduation or have passed the final examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India/Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India/ Institute of Company Secretaries of India.
Admission will be made on the basis of merit in a consolidated merit list with the following weightage: Marks in qualifying examination: 30% weightage; Marks/ Percentile Score in the entrance examinations namely CAT/MAT/ATMA/ JMET/SNAP/ XAT / MR-MAT: 40% weightage; GD: 10% weightage and PI: 20% weightage. Lecture by glass artist Danny Lane
Danny Lane, acclaimed glass artist and global reputed sculptor delivered a talk about his work and creative philosophies at Sushant School of Art and Architecture, Gurgaon. He shared his experiences with the students, the faculty and staff of this institute and the Sushant School of Design. The lecture was organised as part of the Platform Lecture Series 2011 jointly by the Ansal Institute of Technology, the Sushant School of Art and Architecture and the Sushant School of Design on April 1, 2011.
He said that any budding professional should know three things well – the subject, tools and themselves, after that, it is imperative the task will be done.
Lane’s work combines a monumental, and at times brutal, physicality, stacked and fractured glass, twisted or rusted steel, with his strong belief in the metaphysical and transcendental qualities of art.
GIIP invites applications for PG
Global Institute of Intellectual Property (GIIP) is inviting applications for its 3rd batch of the 8-week full-time Executive Post Graduate program in Patent Protection, Enforcement and Management from April 18-June 10, 2011.
The course includes up-to-date education in the US, European and Indian patent laws and procedures. The custom course curriculum of 240 hours will cover technical, legal and management aspects of patents and patent processes. JIMS organises talent acquisition conclave
Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS) Group of Institutions, organised Talent Acquisition, Engagement and Retention Conclave at India Habitat Centre on April 4, 2011. The conclave was held in collaboration with National HRD Network (NHRD). It elucidated the need for talent management by companies. Prominent representatives and speakers from companies such as JK Tyre, HCL Technologies, DLF, Reliance Broadcast Network, Bharti Airtel and more participated in the seminar.
A congregation of HR heads of reputed companies, HR Managers, Talent Acquisition heads, HR researchers and B-school students were also observed at the conclave. Presentations, panel discussions and case study sessions were conducted on strategic approach to Talent Acquisition, Employee Engagement, Compensation & Benefit Practices, HR Technology and Social Media and best practices in Talent Management.

IGNOU to provide modular skills
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), with its country wide network of regional centres and over 3,000 study centres, has the greatest potential in the country to address the alarming issue of skill deficit.

Towards better education
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) along with the Distance Education Programme-Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (DEP-SSA) organised a three-day national seminar on ‘Teacher education through Open and Distance Learning in the context of Right to Education’ from March 22-24, 2011 at the convention centre in the capital.

Students felicitated at convocation
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) hosted its 22nd convocation ceremony on April 2, 2011, at IGNOU campus. Around 2.15 lakh students received their degrees/diplomas with 78 gold medalists across the nation. Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal will be the chief guest for the ceremony.
All students who had passed their Masters, Bachelor and Diploma examinations held in December 2009 and June 2010, were eligible for award of degrees/diplomas. The main function was held at New Delhi for the distributuion of gold medals, degrees and diplomas to eligible students.
Small wonder
The Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU) youngest pride, six-and-a-half-year-old Divya Prakash Pandey has set the university’s mantra of ‘Age no bar, Pace no bar, Place no bar’ right by passing the Certificate in Craft and Design Programme (CCDP) under School of Engineering and Technology in July 2010 session with 76 per cent marks.
He is not only the youngest student of IGNOU but also the youngest student ever admitted in any university. A class two student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Vigyan Vihar, had interest in Craft and Design (Pottery) since childhood. He has created wonder in the world of clay by designing the famous magic trick ‘Water of India’ besides designing different pattern and creating innovative ideas in craft and design.
Placement surge at LBSIM
LBSIM witnessed a boom in the placement season for its 2011 batch. The college has recorded an increase of more than 15 per cent in the average domestic salary. This year saw the beginning of global placements with job offers from recruiters based in Singapore and the Middle East.
A number of coveted profiles were on offer this year, by a number of first time recruiters like JP Morgan Chase, Johnson and Johnson and KPMG. Sales and marketing profiles were offered by companies like Hilti India, Britannia Industries and Vedanta. Financial and marketing research profiles were offered by prominent names like The Nielsen, Capital IQ and Pipal Research. The automobile sector marked its presence through Maruti Suzuki and TVS Motors. Pharmaceutical giant GVK Bio also visited the campus for its Management Trainee programme.
Marking LBSIM’s competency in the financial sector, reputed MNCs like DE Shaw, Marsh India, RECL offered various profiles. Domestic players also made their presence felt with Yes Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Bank of India and IDBI Bank, recruiting in good numbers. The IT domain was well represented by companies like Infosys, HP, HCL, TCS and Wipro.

AMU reminisces its founder
The Aligarh Muslim University observed the 113th death anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of the University on March 27, 2011.
The University organised namaz in the University Mosque after morning prayer and the Vice Chancellor, Prof PK Abdul Azis paid tribute to the founder by spreading floral chadar on his grave situated at the premises of AMU.
University Proctor, Prof Mujahid Beg, Dr Mufti Zahid Ali Khan, Provost and other University officials including students and faculty members participated with the traditional solemnity.
Sir Syed’s death Anniversary is an occasion when the University celebrates the event as a day of introspection and resolve to carry forward the vision and mission of the AMU founder and support the cause of spreading education far and wide.
IPMA to expand its wings
International Project Management Association (IPMA) is all set to open its another chapter at Bengaluru. The event will take place on April 16, 2011 in the city.
Adesh Jain, National President, Project Management Associates (PMA), independent Director, NTPC Ltd and Vice Chairman, International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC) would grace the occasion.
The inaugural address will be given by Bhaskar Chatterjee, Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, Government of India followed by a special address by Dr RC Panda, Member, Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Former Secretary,Government of India.
