A spokeswoman for the Sacramento International Airport said the plane was carrying passengers aboard Alaska Airlines’ flight number 869, when the engine was attacked by birds.
KCRA-3 footage also showed that the plane’s windshield was cracked.
The plane was heading to Maui and was scheduled to depart at about 10 a.m., but the problems appear to have occurred almost immediately after takeoff. By 10:40, there were reports of an emergency landing. By noon, a crew was taking baggage off the plane, suggesting the plane would not be able to fly again on Saturday, though no other information was immediately available.
