DID Doubles Winner

Dance India Dance
Amit Malvankar and Falon Netto of Mumbai were declared the winners of Zee TV’s ‘Dance India Dance Doubles’ Saturday night, following four months of rigorous dancing and competition.
The dancing pair from judge Marzi Pestonji’s team Marzi Ke Mastane beat Saurabh Bangani-Vivek Jaiswal, Cornell Rodrigues-Sonali Kar and Vikram Gill-Niharika Soni to walk away with the trophy in the grand finale. Each of them was also awarded a Tata Nano.
‘It’s an awesome feeling and it has not sunk in yet. I was trying to be as optimistic as I could, as I really wanted it. I knew that we had a chance,’ Falon, 25, told IANS.
‘The experience has been way beyond what I expected. It’s been so physically and mentally draining out. But all of that gets overlooked after winning the competition and I feel so worth it,’ she added.
For Amit also the arduous journey of four months will remain unforgettable.
‘The whole experience is totally unforgettable. From being a background dancer to becoming a dancing star, it’s been a crazy journey. We are really happy that our hard work has paid off,’ he said.
‘All the three mentors were very supportive, especially Marzi sir, he would never make you feel that he was a choreographer. Geeta (Kapoor) mam was a great support, Rajeev (Surthi) sir is the most humble person I have ever met,’ he added.
Amit and Falon have been born and brought up in Mumbai and are trained contemporary dancers. Both were trained by ace choreographer Shiamak Davar, whom they also dedicate their win to.
‘It’s because of him (Shiamak) and his training that we stand here today. I and Falon went up to him before entering the show and said that we want to take part in the competition. He was a great support and gave us a go ahead. Without his love and support this wouldn’t have been possible. I dedicate our win to him,’ said Amit, who has been dancing for 10 years.
Unlike others, both Amit and Falon have no plans of becoming a choreographer or starting a dance institute, as they just want to enjoy being a dancer.
‘I don’t want to open any institute or be a choreographer neither does Falon. The journey from backdrop dancer to dancing star has been great and if any other opportunities land up, I would love to do it but I would not be a choreographer. I am happy as a dancer. We are going with the flow whatever has been lined up we’ll go for it,’ said Amit.
The grand finale saw a melange of performances, amongst the highlights were grandmaster Mithun Chakroborty’s dance with host Shveta Salve and Geeta Kapur.
Mentors Rajeev, Geeta and Marzi also rocked the stage by performing with their respective teams. Along with Shveta, the show was also hosted by Jay Bhanushali.
Also present at the finale were ace choreographer Saroj Khan and ballroom dance expert Sandip Soparkar.
