Smith, a equally strong and versatile lineman, was the first offensive lineman to be taken in the draft when Dallas selected him with the No.9 overall draft pick.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pound tackle starred at Rancho Verde High School in Moreno Valley, California and earned numerous awards as a senior in 2007, including Parade All-American, Super Prep All-American, Prep Star All-American, Scout.com All-American first team, EA Sports All-American second team, ESPN 150 and Super Prep Elite 50 honors.
The five-star recruit joined the Trojans as a freshman in 2008 where he appeared in 10 games, primarily serving as back-up to starter Charles Brown. As a sophomore in 2009, Smith was an All-Pac-10 honorable mention while making 12 starts at right tackle for USC and was a first team All-Pac-10 and Morris Trophy award winner as a junior in 2010.
