Kentucky Mr. Basketball Anthony Hickey of Christian County High School has narrowed his list of colleges to four and will make a decision on May 6.
The 5-foot-11 Hickey is considering South Carolina, LSU, Dayton and potentially Butler.
All have offered him scholarships except Butler, which is still waiting to see if star guard Shelvin Mack opts to put his name into the NBA Draft.
“It’s been tough,” said Anthony Hickey Sr., the players’ father. “Really, before the state tournament run he favored Western (Kentucky) but after the great run the water gates just opened. It’s been tough (narrowing) the list.
Christian County coach Kerry Stovall said the number of schools that have called has been “worse than ridiculous.”
“But it’s been a really good ridiculous,” he said.
Hickey is slated to visit South Carolina later this month with visits to LSU and Dayton slated to be set up shortly.
The Butler option will depend on the decision from Mack. The deadline to enter the NBA Draft is April 24.
Stovall said the plan is for a May 6 decision.
Hickey had long been considering Western Kentucky and during the Sweet 16 also talked about Nebraska, Houston and TCU.
Hickey led Christian County, which finished 25-9 and beat Rowan County 65-63 in double overtime to win the Kentucky state title on March 19.
Hickey stole the show at the Sweet 16. He averaged 22.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 6.5 steals and 4.8 assists in four games.
