Portlandia |
At MTV.com, they said the show offers a "subtle, charming brand of sketch comedy."
James Poniewozik, at Time.com, says: "Has there ever been a better-targeted show than Portlandia? A gentle sketch-comedy sendup (debuting tonight) of high-minded, laid-back, arts-focused, sustainability-oriented living in Portland, Ore., for IFC channel, it is, essentially, a comedy for people who watch IFC, about people who would watch IFC (if they owned televisions), on IFC. It's regionally specific, but really also a spoof of a certain interstate psychographic of small cities, college towns and neighborhoods."
The Los Angeles Times also jumps on the "funny and charming" bandwagon.
On Salon.com, Matt Zoller Seitz writes: "Armisen and Brownstein are targeting a specific Pacific Northwest subculture, but their barbs should lodge deep in any North American neighborhood in which people patronize food co-ops and vegan restaurants and independent bookstores with stacks of homemade ‘zines on the checkout counter..."
The New York Times says: "most of the story lines in “Portlandia” revolve around the sheer unnavigability of a city with no rules and no desire to have them. Even the song playing during the title credits — 'Feel It All Around,' by Washed Out — is lazy, moving at molasses speed."
Yeah, yeah. What do they know? We're asking the viewers who really matter -- you, fellow Portlanders, and those who love them (or at least tolerate them). As the spoofees, what did you think of the spoof? Was it on the mark? Or off-target? Did it turn your dirty clown frown upside down? Or was it funny like a broken leg?
