Moon Eclipse

A spectacular holiday light show in the sky tonight as expected when you can see through the rain.

Tonight is the winter solstice. The full moon is to sit in the sky. And there will be a full moon of the lunar eclipse.

This is the first time in centuries, a lunar eclipse came to the Sundance. The show is expected to last up to three hours as the sun, Earth and moon line up.

The total eclipse will begin about 20 minutes to midnight. This phase - when the moon completely obscured by the shadow of the Earth - is expected to last about an hour.

All this happens in an ideal position for astronomers in North America have the best view. It would be perfect in a typical evening in Southern California. But coverage of the rain and the clouds can absorb light.

However, the Griffith Observatory is preparing host an eclipse party, rain or shine. Telescopes will be on the lawn of the center for you to look through. And astronomers will give free rein to various phases of the eclipse.

You really do not need to see a telescope. And you do not need special glasses, they are solar eclipses. You need clouds to part.
