Today the Senate took a historic step to a policy that undermines our national security at the end, while violating the ideals that risk our brave men and women in uniform to defend their lives. To it by making an end to "Do not Ask, Do not Tell ", since one can not deny our nation in the service of thousands of patriotic Americans forced to leave the army, despite years of exemplary performance, because they are gay. And it's not a thousand others will be encouraged to be a lie to serve the country they love to live.
As commander in chief, I am absolutely convinced that this change has focused only on the professionalism of our soldiers who formed the power better and led the fight against the world has ever known. And I agree with the Minister of Defence and the Chief of General Staff, and called for the vast majority of service by the Pentagon that we can head a new policy at the same time ensuring our power to military readiness.
I would like to Majority Leader Reid, Senators Lieberman and Collins and many others who worked so hard, thanks to go there. It is time to close this chapter of our history. It is time to recognize the sacrifice, courage and integrity are not defined by sexual orientation is not race or gender, religion or belief. It is time for gays and lesbians to allow the Americans to serve their country openly. I urge the Senate to send this bill to my desk so I can sign it into law.
