Amelia Earhart

Researchers at the University of Oklahoma are trying to get viable DNA from three bone fragments to determine if the DNA matches missing plane amateur Amelia Earhardt disappeared 73 years ago. Earhardt family donated samples and tests will take several months.

    The samples were south of the island Nikumaroro thousands of miles from Hawaii, where a few personal items belonging to Earhardt may have been in a camp in 2007 found.

    Earhardt with her navigator Fred Noonan in 1937 tried the world of Amelie small plane, a model of the Lockheed Electra, 10, which was offered by Purdue University to transform. Earhart and Noonan disappeared in the central Pacific.

    Earhardt was flying champion, best-selling author and promoter of women's rights by celebrities.
